Laser Cutting Speed Calculator
Estimate the cutting speed for different wood types based on your laser's optical power and material thickness. This tool uses the empirical engineering model $v = K \cdot \frac{P}{t^{\alpha}}$.

Note: These are estimates for clean cuts with air assist. Always perform a material test before starting your project.
Theoretical Background
The calculator uses the following power-law relationship derived from thermal energy balance: $$v = K \cdot \frac{P}{t^{\alpha}}$$
- $v$ — Cutting speed (mm/s)
- $P$ — Optical power of the laser (Watts)
- $t$ — Material thickness (mm)
- $K$ — Material processing constant
- $\alpha$ — Thickness penalty factor (accounts for heat loss and gas dynamics)
